Hello, I’m Lynn Shapiro. Thank you for taking the time to learn more about me.
Most doulas in metro Atlanta are passionate about their career. I am no different in that regard. My desire to nurture and support growing families in the postpartum period began with the birth of my first grandson in 2014. My son and daughter-in-law hired a postpartum doula, and she was gracious enough to teach me about her work. The more I learned, the more convinced I became that supporting and nurturing new parents was what I was meant to do. Combining the core aspect of my personality—NURTURING—with my passion since childhood—BABIES—equaled a new career I would LOVE!
I’ve been married over 46 years (to the same man!) and have two incredible sons and two awesome daughters (in-law). I am a devoted Grandma to four grandsons, the youngest born in February 2019. I’ve been invited to nurture and support them as they, too, grow into a beautiful family unit. Early in my marriage (before kids) we lived in Europe and Israel, and after our kids went to college we moved all over the United States. This nomadic lifestyle has given me valuable life experiences and a unique perspective and understanding about different regions, people and cultures. I particularly understand what it’s like to have a newborn with no family support in town. I am a safe space for all races, genders and lifestyles. I am empathetic and a good listener. Rather than get caught up in the controversies in child rearing, I tend to look at the big picture. It is my goal to furnish the latest evidence-based information and encourage you to make your own decisions, thereby helping you to feel empowered and confident. If we run into an issue which is beyond my scope of practice, I will refer you to an expert.
Georgia does not require Doulas to be certified. However, certifying with and being a member of a professional organization is important to me because it makes me accountable and holds me to higher standards. I certified through DONA International in 2016 and recertified in 2019. I am CPR and First Aid certified for infants, children and adults. I also have additional education in Perinatal Mood Disorders and breastfeeding.
Parenthood is life’s great teacher. I invite you to open your hearts and minds and let the adventure begin!
